Ubuntu Budgie Is Now An Official Ubuntu Flavor
Great news! There is yet another new addition in the Ubuntu family. Ubuntu Budgie has now become an official Ubuntu flavor. The Ubuntu Budgie founder and lead developer David “fossfreedom” Mohammed in a blog post has written,
The budgie-remix team is pleased to inform the community that the Ubuntu Technical Board has granted official community flavor status to our distro. We are pleased to join and be part-of the superb Ubuntu family. Starting from today the distro will be known as Ubuntu Budgie.
Ubuntu Budgie was formerly known as “Budgie-remix” which is based on Ubuntu with Budgie Desktop Environment. Budgie DE is the default DE of Solus OS. The good point is Budgie wasn’t fork of any existing DEs. It was completely written from scratch to give the lightweight, simple, yet beautiful Desktop experience. The first version of Ubuntu Budgie was Budgie Remix 16.04 which is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. After a short time, the developers released it’s major update 16.04.1, and now it became the part of the Ubuntu family. The latest stable version Budgie Remix 16.10 can be downloaded here. It is based on current latest Ubuntu 16.10 “Yakety Yak”.
Ubuntu Budgie team aims to release their next version, and the first Ubuntu official flavor under new name, Ubuntu Budgie 17.04 in April, 2017. Developing an OS isn’t easy. However, the team behind Ubuntu Budgie is working hard to release new version in time. The hard work and dedication of the developers doesn’t go in vein. Ubuntu Budgie has become an Ubuntu official flavor in a short time after two successful major releases. This is very positive news to the entire Budgie team. On behalf of OSTechNix, I congratulate to all who made this possible.
