ClipGrab – A Free, multi-platform YouTube Downloader and Converter
There are many applications out there to download videos from popular websites, for example YouTube. Also, some popular web browsers, such as Google Chrome, Firefox, and Opera, have add-ons to download the videos from those sites. Today, we are going to discuss one such application named ClipGrab to download videos from online. It is not just a downloader, but also a converter. Meaning, you can download the videos and convert them videos to any other formats.
ClipGrab is a multi-platform, friendly YouTube downloader and converter. It allows you to download multiple videos at the same time. Just copy the video URL and paste it in the ClipGrab interface and start downloading them instantly. It can download videos from popular media websites such as YouTube, Vimeo, Metacafe, Dailymotion and thousands of websites using its advanced video recognition technology.
It can able to download videos of various formats such as MPEG4, Mp3, WMV, OGG Vorbis, OGG Theora, FLV or WebM. Also you can download videos in qualities such as 1080p, 720p, 480p, 360p and 240p etc. Forget about any video download software or browser extensions. ClipGrab is all you need to get this job done. ClipGrab has built-in search option, so that you can search and download videos of your choice from YouTube without even having to visit the YouTube website.
ClipGrab will work on most modern operating systems, including Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Mac OSX. It is completely free, open source, and is released under GPLv3.
Install ClipGrab YouTube Downloader
In Arch Linux:
ClipGrab is available in Arch Linux default repositories. You can install it using command:
$ sudo pacman -S clipgrab
Download and run ClipGrab AppImage:
ClipGrab is also available in AppImage format.
Download the latest AppImage from ClipGrab website:
$ wget -O clipgrab https://download.clipgrab.org/ClipGrab-3.8.2-x86_64.AppImage
Make it executable:
$ chmod +x clipgrab
And,launch it using command:
Download videos using ClipGrab
Once installed, launch ClipGrab from application launcher or menu.
The default interface of ClipGrab will look like below.
As you can see in the above screenshot, ClipGrab has four tabs.
- Search – You can search the Youtube videos without having to YouTube website.
- Downloads – This is where we put the video link and download it. You will be here by default.
- Settings – In this section, We can change the download location, add metadata and enter proxy settings etc.
- About – Displays the ClipGrab details
Let us search and download a video. To do so, click on the Search tab from the main interface and type your serach term.
You will see the list of videos based on your search term. Choose the video of your choice. ClipGrab will automatically shows the video list from YouTube. Just click on the video you want to download.
Then, choose your desired video format, quality, and click Grab this clip! button.
Choose where you want to save the video and click Save.
If you want to download videos from other than YouTube, just copy the link and paste it in the Downloads tab and click “Grab this clip!” button. It is that simple!
Converting videos is just same as downloading videos. All you have to do is just select the video format from ‘Format’ drop-down box as shown below.
As you can see in the above screenshot, I have selected mp3 format from the “Format” drop down box. Hence, ClipGrab will only download the mp3 version of the video.
I have been using ClipGrab for a long time to download online videos and convert them into another formats. As far as I have tested ClipGrab, It worked well. If you ever looking for an easy to use online video download or converer, CLipGrab might a good choice.
